Dr Sheridan Coleman, Perth WA

Sheridan is a practicing artist and freelance arts writer from Perth, W.A. She recently graduated from a PhD course in fine art supported by APA and CUPSA scholarships at Curtin University in Western Australia. Her practice is dedicated to the study of landscape art traditions and their future in a world which is largely materially known, constantly photographed and has been translated (almost) in full into interactive, online, satellite-photographed maps. The digital media many people use to access and interact with landscape imagery is fast becoming a dominant and sometimes preferred influence on cultural traditions and phenomena such as place, environment, panorama, exploration and landscape art. Sheridan is at work fitting these dialogues into a new kind of landscape art. Sheridan currently runs front of house at Fremantle Arts Centre and writes about art for Art Guide Australia and other publications on a freelance basis.
